the gift

render-3617341_1920

they arrived neatly packed
perfectly slotting in next to each other
they were brand new
shiny
inviting
nice to touch
pleasant to look at —

the self-doubt
the disappointment
the resignation
the procrastination
the inertia

***

I thought of posting them back
to the sender
but instead I placed them on a shelf
neatly arranged
perfectly slotting in next to each other
pleasant to touch
nice to look at

never to be touched
rarely to be looked at
